Decoding the Diss – Why is Drake dissing Kendrick Lamar?

Drake’s response comes as no surprise to those following the ongoing rivalry between the two rap giants. Lamar’s dismissal of the “Big Three” narrative in his own track prompted Drake to set the record straight, asserting his place in the rap hierarchy.

The track is as a response to Lamar’s “Like That” (released March 22 with Metro Boomin and Future) in which Lamar dismisses the notion that he’s in a “Big Three” with Drake and J. Cole, rapping, “It’s just big me.”

It’s Drake verse everybody on his highly-anticipated diss record, “Push Ups”.

On the four-minute record, the 6 God takes aim at his current foes including Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and Rick Ross.

“Pipe squeak, pipe down / You ain’t in no Big Three / SZA got you wiped down / Travis got you wiped down / Savage got you wiped down / Like your label, boy, you in a scope right now ,” Drizzy raps in response to K.Dot before shifting his aggression towards Rozay. “I might take your latest girl and cuff her like I’m Ricky / Can’t believe he jumping in, this nigga turning fifty / Every song that made it on the chart, he got from Drizzy.”

Elsewhere, the OVO boss targets The Weeknd (“Claim the 6 and boys ain’t even come from it /And when you boys got rich you had to run from it / Cash blowing Abel bread, out here tricking / Shit we do for bitches he doing for niggas.”) as well as Future and Metro Boomin.

“I could never be nobody number one fan /Your first number one had to put it in your hand / You pussies can’t get booked outside America for nan / I’m out in Tokyo because I’m big in Japan,” he continues. “I get more love in the city that you’re from, nigga / Metro, shut yo hoe ass up and make some drums, nigga.”

“Push Up” arrives on the heels of a slew of shots recently towards Drake including Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Like That” off of Future and Metro Boomin’sWe Still Don’t Trust You. and The Weeknd’s jab on “All To Myself” from Future and Metro’s follow-up, We Still Don’t Trust You. The latter also included more subliminal shots from J.Cole and A$AP Rocky.
