Toronto’s Waterfront Promenade Just Got a Stunning New Extension

Toronto’s waterfront just got even more beautiful. The city has officially unveiled a brand-new extension of the Water’s Edge Promenade — adding another jewel to the scenic granite walkway that stretches along the downtown shoreline.

A New Chapter for East Bayfront

Located in the rapidly developing East Bayfront district, this latest addition connects the promenade eastward to Parliament Slip, giving residents and visitors more space to stroll, cycle, and take in the stunning views of Toronto Harbour.

The new section wraps around the striking Aqualuna development, a modern architectural landmark that recently completed construction. Alongside new homes and the East Bayfront Community & Recreation Centre, which opened on September 20th, this promenade extension enhances the area’s reputation as one of Toronto’s most exciting new neighbourhoods.

Designed for Beauty and Nature

Created by Waterfront Toronto, the extension features the promenade’s signature mosaic maple leaf pattern and a six-metre-wide path designed for leisurely walks by the water.

This section embraces a naturalized landscape, blending seamlessly with the nearby Ookwemin Minising island in the Port Lands. Visitors will find:

  • Open planters filled with native plant life
  • A double row of shade trees
  • Custom-designed seating areas
  • Large glacial stones (known as erratics) that double as art pieces and resting spots

Stunning Views and a New Community Hub

From this new stretch, you can take in panoramic views of the Toronto Islands, the harbour, and the evolving Port Lands redevelopment.

The promenade also connects directly to the new East Bayfront Community & Recreation Centre through large folding doors that open right onto the lakefront — creating a dynamic indoor-outdoor gathering space for the community.

Visit the New Waterfront Extension

The Water’s Edge Promenade extension is now open to the public at 261 Queens Quay East. Whether you’re a jogger, cyclist, photographer, or just someone who loves a peaceful walk by the lake, this new extension is a must-visit spot along Toronto’s ever-evolving waterfront.
