Aubrey Drake Graham was born in Toronto, Ontario, on October 24, 1986. Long before he became one of the world’s most recognizable recording artists, he was known to Canadian television audiences as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation. That early acting career gave Drake a public platform, but his transition into music would ultimately make him one of Toronto’s most internationally visible cultural figures.

Drake’s musical breakthrough accelerated with the 2009 mixtape So Far Gone and the hit “Best I Ever Had.” His 2010 debut album Thank Me Later reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and 2011’s Take Care later earned the GRAMMY Award for Best Rap Album.
