Toronto has signed the 24-year-old forward after a 37-point AHL season, giving Brisson a chance to turn strong minor-league production into a larger NHL role.
Brendan Brisson is joining the Toronto Maple Leafs on a one-year contract, bringing a productive AHL record and limited NHL experience to the club’s forward group.
The Maple Leafs announced the signing on Friday, September 4. Brisson, 24, played three games with the New York Rangers last season and recorded one assist. His bigger contribution came with the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he scored 19 goals and added 18 assists in 66 games.
Brisson’s strongest work has come in the AHL
The Hartford season continued a steady record in the minors. Brisson has 145 points, including 66 goals, in 244 career AHL games with the Wolf Pack and the Henderson Silver Knights.
His NHL résumé is still developing. Brisson has two goals and seven assists across 27 career games with the Rangers and Vegas Golden Knights.
That difference between his AHL production and NHL results gives Toronto a clear question to evaluate: can he carry his scoring touch into a larger role at the league’s highest level?
A former first-round pick with international experience
Vegas selected Brisson 29th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. He later represented the United States at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, where he scored twice in four games.
Brisson also helped the Americans win gold at the 2021 world junior championship, scoring two goals in seven games. Those results add useful context to a player whose professional progress has been strongest outside the NHL.
What the signing means for Toronto
A one-year deal gives the Maple Leafs a look at an experienced professional without a long-term commitment. For Brisson, it creates a new opportunity to establish himself after brief NHL stops in Vegas and New York.
The immediate focus will be his place in Toronto’s forward plans. His AHL scoring gives him a strong credential, but his 27 NHL games leave room for the club to assess how his game translates to regular NHL minutes.
For now, the signing adds another name to Toronto’s forward picture. Brisson’s next step will depend on whether he can turn proven minor-league offence into consistent NHL production.
